BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Sam Houston Bearkats struggled to get going on Tuesday afternoon in an 13-3 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies at Blue Bell Park.
It was the second win for the Aggies (24-16) this season and kept them red hot with their 10th win in their last 11 games overall this year.
Parker Blackman had a double in the second inning, but that was the lone hit for the Kats (8-33) until the top of the seventh when the Kats plated three runs to extend the game before the Aggies answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to end it.
Easton Dean led off the inning with a double and Sam Lee brought him home with an RBI single to plate the first run of the game for SHSU. Brady Christensen later plated Lee with an RBI grounder later in the frame and Jace Martinez plated another with an RBI single.
Starter Cole Marthiljohni took the loss after allowing just one run on 2.0 innings of work.
Felix Schlede and Tate Hickman each put up scoreless innings of work late in the game, including Hickman punching out the side in the bottom of the sixth; however, A&M did get to him for the final runs of the day in the seventh.
In all the Aggies crushed four home runs on their home field, including two from Blake Binderup and one apiece from Caden Sorrell and Terrence Kiel II. Aiden Sims picked up the win in relief, finishing with four strikeouts in 2.0 innings after following starter Gavin Lyons
