HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston Bearkats returned to Don Sanders Stadium for the first time in two weeks, but were greeted rudely by Baylor as the Bears handed the Kats a 15-4 loss on Tuesday night.
Baylor (28-16) had four multi-run innings, including scoring four times in the second and five more in the fourth to earn their second win over Sam Houston (9-36) this season. The teams combined to use 14 total pitchers with Baylor starter Caleb Jameson going to 2-0 with the win after 2.0 scoreless innings.
Bearkat starter Connor Mondey allowed four runs in 1.1 innings of work before being lifted and fell to 0-4 on the year. Zak Johnson turned in the strongest performance of the seven SHSU pitchers used, striking out four of the five batters he faced in late-inning relief.
Blake Brown delivered the big swing of the night for the Kats at the plate, blasting a 2-run homer out to left-center field to get SHSU on the board in the bottom of the third. It was his first homer of the year and the third of his career.
Sam Lee delivered two hits and an RBI, while fellow freshman Parker Blackman had an RBI single of his own on a night that saw SHSU pick up seven total hits.
