HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston opened its series against FIU with a 6-3 victory Friday night at Bearkat Softball Complex.Â
The Bearkats (19-20, 7-6 CUSA) capitalized on two Panther errors and tallied eight hits to pull ahead.Â
Bella Perez gave Sam Houston an early lead with a two-run single to right field in the first inning, scoring Elia Hebel and Kyla Heine.Â
FIU tied the game at 2-2 in the third with back-to-back RBI hits.Â
Morgan Holliday broke the tie with a two-run home run over the left-field wall in the fourth, putting the Bearkats back in front.Â
FIU's final run came in the top of the fifth when Abigail Young walked in a run with the bases loaded.Â
Holliday came through again in the bottom of the fifth, dropping a two-run single into center field to extend the lead.Â
Kendall Daniel started in the circle for Sam Houston, pitching three innings and allowing two runs on six hits. She also contributed at the plate with a hit and was hit by a pitch.Â
Young (3-5) got the win for the Bearkats, allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts in four innings.Â
