DALLAS — Four Sam Houston players were named to the All-Conference USA teams, the league announced Tuesday.
Right-handed pitcher Abigail Young earned a spot on the first team, while Elia Hebel, Bella Perez and Jenny Robison were named to the second team.
Young put together a standout sophomore season, finishing with a 1.66 ERA, the best in Conference USA, and an 8-6 overall record. Four of her wins came during conference play in April, including a strong outing in a 3-1 win over then-No. 25 Liberty.
She threw 109 2/3 innings this season, with 70 2/3 coming in league games, and allowed just 22 earned runs in conference play. Young also recorded two saves, including one in a 6-2 win over UTEP. She had 16 starts and struck out 59 batters, picking up her first win in a 5-0 shutout against UTSA.
Perez, a transfer from McNeese, made an immediate impact behind the plate and in the lineup. She started 53 of 54 games and caught in 49 of them, finishing the season with a .282 batting average and .287 in conference play.
Perez totaled 46 hits, including 12 home runs and seven doubles, and drove in 34 runs. Her 12 home runs are tied for the second most in a single season in program history. Defensively, she tallied 217 putouts, 17 assists and posted a .992 fielding percentage.
Robison led the Bearkats with a .371 batting average, ranking among the top 10 hitters in the conference. She started 44 of 49 games and led the team in hits with 52 and slugging percentage at .600.
Robison also recorded 27 RBIs and six home runs. In the field, she posted a .978 fielding percentage with 43 putouts.
Hebel was a steady presence at first base for the Bearkats, starting in 52 of 54 games this season. She finished with a .302 batting average overall and hit .373 in conference play. Hebel tallied 45 hits, 25 RBIs and 10 extra-base hits, including two triples. Defensively, she posted a .987 fielding percentage and led the team with 328 putouts.
The Bearkats will face No. 3 seed Jax State on Wednesday at noon in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
