SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) announced the recipients of the 2025 NTCA All-Academic Scholar Teams earlier this week with eight Sam Houston bowlers landing on the team.
The NTCA All-Academic Scholar Teams recognize exceptional academic achievement among NTCA-affiliated NCAA Bowling programs. To qualify for the NTCA All-Academic Scholar Team award, programs must have maintained a cumulative team GPA of 3.2 or higher during the 2024–25 academic year. This year, 49 teams earned this prestigious distinction, exemplifying a strong commitment to excellence both on the lanes and in the classroom.
The Kats came in tied for 10th in National GPA Academic Rankings with a 3.66 team mark.
"With our rigorous training and travel schedule, its beyond important for us to continue to set the bar academically as well as prove that we can be successful in the classroom at an elite level no matter how busy we are," Bearkat head coach
Brad Hagen said. "With a historical GPA over 3.5 over 15 seasons our winning culture is first the student before the athlete."
Along with the recognized National honors, the Kats chalked up another 8 NCTA Academic All Americans and now putting their career number at 65 Academic All Americans over 15 seasons.
"I can't thank our academic resource staff and LEC Staff enough for what they do for the ladies, as well as their availability to help navigate our scheduling chaos. All of that with a University support system that understands our competitiveness on and off the lanes has helped us continue to perform at the highest of levels," Hagen said.
In all, 397 student-athletes from 66 NCAA Bowling programs were recognized as National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Academic Scholar Athletes for the 2024-2025 Academic Year.
The NTCA All-Academic Team honors collegiate bowlers who have excelled in the classroom while competing at the highest levels of the sport. To be eligible, student-athletes must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.4 during the academic year. The National Tenpin Coaches Association is privileged to showcase the exceptional academic accomplishments of our student-athletes.
