LAKE CHARLES, La. — Sam Houston started hot scoring two goals in the first half and never looked back to cruise past McNeese 3-1 at Cowgirl Field on Thursday for in the final nonconference match of the season.
Indigo Sims scored within the first minute of the game to put the Bearkats (3-3-1) on the board early. Not shortly after,
Jasmine Dybala got in on the scoring action by heading in a corner kick from
Tiana Johnson to put the Kats up by two in the first 10 minutes.
McNeese came back with a goal of its own in the 13th minute to tighten the Sam Houston lead. The rest of the half both teams continued taking shots at the goal before heading into the break.
The second half was no different for the Bearkats as
Gianna Gomez scored quickly in the 50th minute with the assist from Johnson. The Kats continued to take offensive control of the ball the rest of the night, taking 19 shots with 14 being on goal.
Drew Tolley scoped up three saves for the Kats alongside
Samantha Rank with one.
The Bearkats return to action on Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. for their first CUSA match of the season against New Mexico State in Las Cruces.
