HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston won the opening set but had problems solving Georgia State's attack in a 3-1 loss on Friday night at Johnson Coliseum on the second night of the Bearkat Classic.
The Bearkats opened the match strong, cruising to a 25-16 victory in the first set against the Panthers. Momentum quickly shifted, however, as the Kats struggled to maintain their rhythm and dropped the next three sets. Despite the fast start, Sam Houston was unable to recover once the Panthers took momentum.
Freshman Chloe Monson once again paced the Bearkats' offense, finishing with a team-high 14 kills. On the defensive side, Shaelin White anchored the back row with 17 digs, while Lauren Malone also reached double figures with 11. Avery Fowler distributed 23 assists, strengthening her place in the record books as Sam Houston's 10th all-time leader in career assists.
The Bearkats will continue the Bearkat Classic Saturday night against ULM with first serve at 6 p.m.
