HUNTSVILLE —Sam Houston outlasted ULM in five sets Saturday night at Johnson Coliseum to close out the Bearkat Classic.
The Bearkats fell behind early, dropping the first two sets to ULM 25-21 and 25-16. Sam Houston responded with a 28-26 win in the third set and carried that momentum into a fourth-set victory. The decisive fifth set turned into a back-and-forth duel, with the Kats pulling out a 17-15 win to seal the match.
Freshman Chloe Monson led the Bearkats with 21 kills, marking another double-digit performance. Setter Avery Fowler recorded 33 assists, while Shaelin White contributed three service aces and a team-high 24 digs.
The Bearkats closed the tournament with an 8-5 record to place second overall. Sam Houston will stay home to open conference play against UTEP on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
