ABILENE – Nayuma Subba, Ella Fitcher and Isabella Garza all earned a victories in outings against a quality field of Texas intercollegiate squads at the ACU Invitational. The event was hosted by Abilene Christian University at the John T. L. Jones Center Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Top programs participating in the event included Texas Tech, Tarleton State, UTSA, UT Arlington and host ACU. The Invitational marked the second of Sam Houston's five scheduled tournaments during the fall tennis season.

Subba handed Valeria Sanchez of UTSA 6-2 6-2 loss in the opening round of the Flight A competition. Fitcher defeated Avery Kinsey from Stephen F. Austin 6-2 6-3 in Flight G action. Garza handed topped Jessica Board of ACU 7-5 6-1 in Flight H play.

Fitcher and Subba also paired for a 7-6 doubles win over Julia Richardet and Anastasia Radovanovic from Texas State.

"These fall tournaments give our team the opportunity to test themselves against some of the finest competitors in the state," SHSU head coach Rob Hubbard said. "We have three more tests ahead of us as we seek to prepare ourselves for next spring's Conference USA race,"

Next up for the Kats is the ITA Regionals at TCU in Fort Worth Oct. 9-12. Sam Houston will host the Bearkat Invitational at the Chuck & Wanda Beckner Tennis Center Oct. 17-19 and finish the fall slate Nov. 1-2 at the Texas State Invitational in San Marcos.
