KATS GOING FOR EAST COAST SWEEP IN NEWARK
- Sam Houston moved to 2-0 in CUSA play on Thursday with a 59-53 win at reigning league champion Liberty. The win marked the first-ever win for SHSU over Liberty in its sixth try and snapped a 13-game overall win streak for Liberty vs CUSA opponents dating back to last season and dropped LU to 39-4 all-time at Liberty Arena vs CUSA foes
- The Kats' 9-4 mark is tied for its second-best 13-game start in program history, equaling its 9-4 start in 2019-20 and only bettered by a 10-3 start in 1987-88
- Sam Houston has now won four games in a row for the second time this year. It is the first season for SHSU with multiple win streaks of 4+ games since 2019-20. The 4-game streak is the longest since a 7-game win streak in 2021-22
- Sam Houston has totaled 28 overall wins since joining CUSA for the 2023-24 season. The Bearkats have held their opponent under 70 points in 27 of those 28 games with the lone exception being an 87-81 OT win over WKU in 2023-24
- The Kats forced 20 turnovers against Liberty. Sam Houston leads CUSA and ranks fourth in the nation with 27.46 turnovers forced per game in 2025-26
- The win over the Flames marked the Kats' first road win in league play over a reigning conference champion since defeating 2020 Southland Conference champion A&M-Corpus Christi on March 3, 2021 in Corpus Christi
- This will be just the second all-time meeting between the Bearkats and the Blue Hens, and the first-ever game as Conference USA rivals. The Blue Hens, ranked No. 10 in the nation at the time, owns a 1-0 all-time lead in the series, getting an early season win in Newark in 2012-13 in the opening round of that season's WNIT.
