Kats fall at WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Sam Houston soccer team fell 2-0 to Western Kentucky Thursday night in a physical Conference USA matchup at the WKU Soccer Complex.
The Bearkats (4-4-3, 0-2-0 CUSA) battled throughout the contest but were unable to find the back of the net against the Hilltoppers (7-1-4, 1-1-0 CUSA).
Western Kentucky opened the scoring and added a second goal to take a 2-0 advantage. The Hilltoppers finished with a 16-6 edge in shots, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Hannah Stipp kept the Bearkats within striking distance, recording five saves in the match.
Sam Houston continued to pressure late, with Lily Sargent-Burns putting a shot on target in the 85th minute that was saved by WKU goalkeeper Mia Riddick.
The Hilltoppers controlled the corner-kick battle, 12-2, as Sam Houston continued to battle until the final whistle.
The Bearkats return to action Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. against Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, at Hayes Track and Field Stadium.
