DALLAS — Sam Houston not only picked up its first Conference USA win of the season over the weekend, but the Bearkats also received their first weekly recognition as well.
Â
Forward Lia Millward scored at the opportune time to earn the league's women's soccer Offensive Player of the Week Award, CUSA announced on Tuesday. Sam Houston knocked off the NM State 2-1 at Pritchett Field to improve to 1-2-1 in conference play and 5-4-4 overall.
Â
The sophomore from Lehi, Utah scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 71st minute against the Aggies. Sam Houston was up 1-0 in the second half when Millward was able to punch the ball past NM State keeper Emilia Copian off a pass from Siera Herbert.
Â
The Aggies quickly matched the goal a minute later, but the Bearkats clamped down closed the door on NM State the rest of the match.
