Kats finish second at Bentwater Intercollegiate

MONTGOMERY – The Sam Houston men's golf team finished second at the Bentwater Intercollegiate on Tuesday, turning in five-over-par at Bentwater Country Club.
The Bearkats carded a one-over-par final round to close the tournament at +5 over 54 holes, marking the second consecutive year Sam Houston has placed second at the event.
Caleb Lumpkin led the Kats, finishing third overall after recording four birdies in the final round. Lumpkin posted rounds of 70-72-69. Jackson Hymer followed closely behind, placing fourth after shooting 67-71-75 to finish even par for the tournament.
Sam Houston and VCU were tied at 857 after three rounds, forcing a team playoff on the 18th hole. VCU ultimately secured the team title, while Sam Houston earned second place. Central Arkansas finished third at +11, followed by East Texas A&M at +13.
Grayson Petru recorded three birdies in each round and finished tied for 11th at +2 after closing with a one-under-par 70 (72-73-70). Alex Malanga shot even par on Tuesday, highlighted by four birdies on the front nine, to finish tied for 22nd at +5.
Sebastian May placed 56th at +14 after rounds of 76-74-77. Preston Hiller, competing as an individual, finished at +37 with rounds of 83-83-84.
The Bearkats return to action at the Border Olympics, hosted by Houston, beginning Monday, February 16, at Laredo Country Club in Laredo.
