
Kats to Play in Mardi Gras Mambo

Youngsville, La. — The Sam Houston softball team will take part in Mardi Gras Mambo tournament over the weekend.Â

The three-day tournament, which will be held at the Youngsville Sports Complex, features five games for the Bearkats beginning Friday against St. Thomas Minnesota (4-1) and SIUE (1-4). On Saturday, Sam Houston will face Eastern Illinois (2-3) and Georgia State (5-0). Â

The Kats will finalize the weekend on Sunday with a single game against New Mexico (2-3). Â

Sam Houston is coming off a home tournament where the squad went 3-2. Â
 Â
Bella Perez, Karrlauhn Deas, Tricia Yarotsky and freshman Peyton Helmly came out with barrels smoking, recording their first home runs of the season. Freshman Sophia Lundstrom collected a team-leading eight hits in the tournament while Deas and Jordan Peno follow closely with six hits apiece.   Â
