DALLAS – Sam Houston redshirt junior Ryan Franden was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week on Monday, per a release from league officials after leading the Bearkats to a series win on Opening Weekend at McNeese.
Franden turned in three multi-hit, multi-RBI games against the Cowboys, hitting three homers and driving in nine runs in the series. He hit .429 for the series (6-for-14) with a .467 on-base percentage and 1.214 slugging percentage after racking up 17 total bases.
He opened the series with a 2-for-5 game with three 2-out RBI coming in a 2-run single and an RBI triple. Franden followed that outing with a 2-for-4 game, reaching base three total times and homering for the first time on the year.
The Katy native closed his weekend with his first career multi-homer game on Sunday, homering in consecutive at-bats to account for half of the Kats' four longballs in an 8-5 win to clinch its first Opening Weekend road series win since 1998.
Franden and the Bearkats will go for their first midweek win of the season on Tuesday when they travel to HCU to take on the Huskies. The game is set for 6:30 p.m. and is set to be aired on ESPN+.
