Kats extend winning streak to five

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston was able to outrun Missouri State to the finish to earn a hard-fought 86-81 victory at Johnson Coliseum in the home finale on Saturday.
The Bearkats stretched their winning streak to five games to remain in second place in Conference USA with two games left to play in the regular season. Jacob Walker led Sam Houston (21-8, 13-5 CUSA) with 23 points, and Po'Boigh King added 17.
Veljko Ilic battled his way to 15 points, and Damon Nicholas Jr. just missed a double-double with nine points and nine boards. CJ Beaumont hit a pair of 3-pointers to finish with eight points, while Jacobe Coleman and Matt Dann each scored seven.
The Bearkats shot 50 percent or better from the field for the second consecutive game and were 6 for 13 from long range. Sam Houston was able to get to the free throw line where the squad went 22 for 28.
Missouri State (13-16, 7-11) outscored the Kats in the second half 47-43, but Sam Houston held a 43-34 advantage at the break.
