Podium finishes highlight Bearkat weekend

The Bearkat men powered their way to a fourth-place team finish with 68 points, finishing ahead of Western Kentucky (60.5), Louisiana Tech (44) and UTEP (30) in a tightly contested championship field.
Men's Competition
Sam Houston's sprint group set the tone early, led by Xzamion Parker, who captured bronze in the 60 meters with a time of 6.68. Javain Johnson (6.77) and Tyriq Brunn (6.89) added valuable points with fifth- and seventh-place finishes, respectively.
The Bearkats continued their momentum in the 200 meters, where Omarion Ferguson secured third place in 21.28. Parker (21.49) and Brunn (21.49) followed in fifth and sixth, while Ikenna Opara and Harley Jensen competed in the preliminary rounds.
In middle-distance action, Caleb Anthony delivered a standout performance in the 800 meters, earning bronze in 1:50.10, while Jabari Mitchell added an eighth-place finish (1:52.98). Christian Rohlack competed in prelims, and Edwin Rivera contributed points with a fifth-place mile finish in 4:11.18.
Will Smith placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (7.95), with Davonne Fossie competing in prelim competition.
The highlight of the meet came in the 4x400-meter relay, where the quartet of Joshua Waddy-Sims, Rohlack, Parker and Anthony raced to a second-place finish in 3:09.72, delivering one of Sam Houston's top performances of the championship.
In the field events, Jeremiah Jackson cleared 1.97 meters to place fourth in the high jump. Parker Brown and Nathan Williams each cleared 5.05 meters to finish fifth and sixth in the pole vault, while Dylan Truss added an eighth-place mark (4.90m).
Kyle Kiser (7.09m) and Kaleb Kiser (6.70m) competed in the long jump, while Kaleb (13.82m) and Kyle (13.71m) later placed eighth and ninth in the triple jump.
In the throws, Mateo Ortiz led the Bearkats with a sixth-place shot put throw of 16.10 meters, followed by John Hanson in eighth (15.77m) and Nikos Fotinopoulos in 10th (14.17m). Fotinopoulos also placed 10th in the weight throw with a mark of 16.43 meters.
Women's Competition
The Bearkat women finished ninth overall with 29 points, placing ahead of Missouri State (27.6), Delaware (27) and Jacksonville State (21).
Nora Ryan paced the women's squad with a podium finish in the 800 meters, earning third place in 2:06.26. She also contributed a leg on the 4x400 relay team.
In the sprints, Ayana Mallard-Smith finished sixth in the 60 meters (7.52) and competed in the 200-meter prelims. Jayden Piper recorded a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 54.31 and also ran the 200 meters.
Alyssa Jolly posted times of 25.07 (200m) and 57.67 (400m), while Amaya Kennison-Jenkins (56.81) and Emmanuella Squire (56.89) added depth in the 400-meter prelims.
Distance events saw Bailey Cheshire run 5:01.03 in the mile prelims, while Zerah Martinez competed in both the mile and 3000 meters. Sophia Phillip led Sam Houston in the 3000 meters (10:03.01), followed by Ami Clark (10:13.17) and Avery Brown (10:38.50).
The 4x400 relay team of Jolly, Ryan, Squire and Piper finished ninth overall, while the distance medley relay squad of Phillip, Kennison-Jenkins, Brown and Clark earned a fifth-place finish.
In field events, Dannette Haygood placed seventh in the triple jump (12.28m) and 14th in the long jump (5.52m). Brenna Murphy recorded a fifth-place shot put finish with a throw of 14.13 meters. Madeline Ackers added an 11th-place shot put mark (12.62m) and competed in the weight throw.

With the indoor season complete, the Bearkats now shift their focus to the outdoor campaign, aiming to build on conference success and carry momentum into the spring season.
