Jax State downs Kats in seven frames

Jax State (16-3, 2-0 CUSA) scored 10 times in the first two innings and built up a 15-0 lead before the Kats (8-10, 0-2 CUSA) were able to get on the scoreboard to secure a weekend victory in the opening series of CUSA play.
Freshman starter Collin Aloisio had gone 5.0 innings in each of his first four collegiate starts, but was unable to make it out of the second frame against a Gamecock offense that was ready from the start with eight of its 20 hits going for extra bases.
Brady Thomas had a second-inning grand slam and Grayson Ashe finished with five RBI on a pair of run-scoring doubles for JSU to lead the attack that started with four runs in the first and six more in the second.
Gamecock starter Beau Bryans got the win to go to 3-0 finishing with five punchouts in 4.0 innings, exiting after hitting a wall in the fourth when the Kats were able to get to him for four runs.
Jeric Curtis was the lone Kat with multiple hits, singling twice, while Ty Marthiljohni had a 3-run double in the fourth and Hunter Alvord blasted his third homer of the year in the fifth. Parker Blackman also added a pinch-hit RBI triple in the seventh.
UP NEXT
The Kats will try to salvage the finale on Saturday. First pitch is set for noon with sophomore right-hander Tate Hickman set to get the start.
