HUMBLE – The Sam Houston men's golf team heads south this week to compete in the 2026 All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston, hosted by Houston and Rice.
The two-day event has been played annually since 2016. The par-72 course measures 7,508 yards and was designed to host the Shell Houston Open, cutting through a natural forest framed by trees, bunkers and water.
The Bearkats have competed in the event every year since its inception, placing in the top half of the field in each of the last five seasons and capturing back-to-back titles in 2019 and 2020. The course also hosted LIV Golf Houston in 2024 and the Women's U.S. Open qualifiers in 2021.
The 16-team field features three ranked teams: No. 2 Odessa, No. 4 Arkansas and No. 49 Rice. The rest of the field includes Abilene Christian, Eastern Michigan, Houston Christian, Lamar, Nebraska, North Texas, Tarleton State, Texas State, ULM, UT Arlington, UTRGV and co-host Houston.
Last season, Sam Houston placed eighth overall at +28 over 54 holes. Ethan Dufresne claimed the first individual title of his collegiate career, finishing 6-under par with rounds of 69-73-68. Alex Malanga shot +14 with rounds of 76-75-79 and tied for 59th.
