Kats fall 3-2 to UTEP

EL PASO, Texas — The Bearkats fell 3-2 to UTEP on Sunday evening to close out their conference-opening series at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.Â
The Miners (8-10, 1-2 CUSA) took an early lead in the second inning, scoring one run. The Bearkats (14-9, 2-1 CUSA) responded in the third, pushing across a run to tie the game.Â
UTEP regained the lead in the fourth inning and held it until the seventh. Sam Houston loaded the bases in the top of the inning and brought one runner home to tie the game at 2-2.Â
The Miners answered in the bottom of the seventh, scoring the game-winning run to secure the 3-2 victory.Â
Morgan Holliday and Kinsey Hobbs each recorded a double, while Sophia Lundstrom led the Bearkats with three hits.Â
Tiffany Sanchez entered the circle for the final two innings and recorded five strikeouts.Â
Sam Houston returns home to face Stephen F. Austin on March 10 at 2 p.m.Â
