Big inning lifts SFA over Kats in midweek clash

HUNTSVILLE — The Bearkats fell 8-4 to Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday evening in a midweek matchup at the Bearkat Softball Complex.Â
The Lumberjacks (16-10) took an early lead in the first inning. The Bearkats (16-11, CUSA 2-1) answered in the bottom of the inning, taking the lead on a two-run home run by Veronica Harrison, her 10th of the season.Â
The Kats' lead was short-lived as the Lumberjacks gained momentum in the third inning, tying the game before reclaiming the lead in the fourth. Sam Houston quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from Tricia Yarotsky to tie the game.Â
The teams remained head-to-head until the fifth inning, when Stephen F. Austin scored five runs to take control. The Bearkats attempted to rally with a home run from Peyton Helmly, but they were held scoreless for the remainder of the game as the Lumberjacks secured the 8-4 win.Â
Sam Houston finished with nine hits, four RBIs, two doubles, and two home runs.Â
The Bearkats travel to San Marcos to face Texas State at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 11.Â
