SMYRNA, Tenn. — The Bearkats are headed to the Conference USA Championships fresh off a second-place finish at the Music City Classic on Sunday at Smyrna Bowl.
Sam Houston closed the tournament with a loss in the championship game to Ja State. The Gamecocks were able to top the Kats 4-0 in the title game after the pair went to six to open the day.
Sam Houston, which went 8-5 in the tournament, did get a win over Arkansas State on Sunday to set up the rematch with Jax State. Host Vanderbilt was second followed by Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, North Carolina A&T, Wichita State, Maryville, Alabama State and Wright State round out the top 10 of the massive 34-team field.
Breana Chewens, who placed sixth individually, and Miya Greene, who was 10th, were both named to the all-tournament team.
Sam Houston will compete in the Conference USA Championships March 19-21 at Colonial Lanes in Harahan, Louisiana.
