Kats tied for 17th at Mossy Oak

WEST POINT, Miss. – The Sam Houston men's golf team tied for 17th place at the Mossy Oak Collegiate, hosted by Mississippi State at Mossy Oak Golf Club.
The Bearkats posted a final-round score of 23-over-par to finish the 54-hole event at 37-over-par. Sam Houston tied with Louisiana Tech and finished ahead of ULM, while placing ten strokes behind Rice, UTEP and Middle Tennessee.
Alex Malanga paced the Bearkats, finishing tied for 33rd at 4-over-par with rounds of 71-73-76. He recorded five birdies in the opening round, added three in the second round and carded one in the final round.
Caleb Lumpkin finished 53rd at 8-over-par (74-72-78), highlighted by a five-birdie performance in the second round. He totaled nine birdies across the tournament.
No. 15 Ole Miss and host Mississippi State shared the team title at 17-under-par, followed by No. 10 Vanderbilt at 10-under-par and No. 17 Alabama at 4-under-par.
Jackson Hymer placed 73rd at 13-over-par (73-77-79), recording six birdies over the three rounds. Grayson Petru followed in 77th place at 14-over-par (74-76-80), while Sebastian May finished 81st at 19-over-par (80-77-78).
Sam Houston will conclude its season at the Conference USA Championships, set for April 27-30 at Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Texas.
