Kats drop pair at Sandy Boot Scoot

NACOGDOCHES — The Sam Houston beach volleyball team closed the regular season on Friday, dropping a pair of matches to Stephen F. Austin and McNeese at the Sandy Boot Scoot.

The one-day event opened with a head-to-head matchup against the Lumberjcks with the home team clinching the win with a victory on the No. 5 court. The Kats got wins from its No. 1 pair of Tatum Lockhardt and Michaela Panekova, outlasting the SFA pair of Dowd/Ledbetter in three sets.

Avery Fowler and Ella Folse also teamed up to get a point on the board for SHSU by knocking off Damborowiski/Franca on the No. 4 court, giving the Kats an early 1-0 lead before SFA took the next three points.

Sam Houston then turned around and took on McNeese with the teams playing to a decision before the match was halted due to weather. The Cowgirls picked up the 3-0 win with victories on the Nos. 4, 2 and 5 courts. The Kats did hold a lead at No. 1 when play was halted as Lockhardt/Panekova had taken Set 1 by a 21-19 score.
The Kats will now have nearly three weeks off before competing in the CUSA Beach Volleyball Championships. The event is set for April 23-25 at Sugar Beach in Youngsville, La.
