
Kats opens 2026-27 season in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Sam Houston men's golf opens the 2026-27 season Monday at the Bearcat Invitational at Coldstream Country Club.
Hosted by Cincinnati, the tournament will feature 17Â teams and consist of 54 holes, with 36 holes played Monday and the final 18 holes Tuesday. The Bearkats will compete against Augusta, Chattanooga, Furman, Iowa State, Kentucky, Liberty, Little Rock, Louisville, Maryland, Memphis, Minnesota, Nebraska, TCU, UCF, Xavier and host Cincinnati.
The tournament will be played on the par-71, 7,279-yard Coldstream Country Club course, which features rolling terrain, sand and water hazards. Cincinnati won last year's tournament at 18-under par.
The Bearkats return to the event for the fifth consecutive season, with their best finish coming in 2022 when they placed seventh of 13 teams. Sam Houston finished 16th of 17 teams in 2023, 12th of 18 teams in 2024 and 14th of 18 teams last season.
Sam Houston finished 16-over par in last year's event, with Alex Malanga pacing the Bearkats in 11th overall after shooting rounds of 72-72-67. Grayson Petru followed in 26th at 71-72-71.
Jackson Hymer finished 73rd after carding 72-76-75, while Caleb Lumpkin placed 75th with rounds of 77-71-76. Ethan Dufresne finished 89th after shooting 74-80-75.
The Bearkats enter the new season with four newcomers joining the roster. Transfers Brett Jones from Barry University and Oliver Cage from New Mexico will join freshmen Ben Montreuil and Jaxson Henegar as Sam Houston looks to strengthen its lineup for the 2026-27 campaign.
The Bearkats will look to improve on last year's finish and open the season with a strong showing against the 17-team field.
