Bearkats fall to Denver 3-0

STEPHENVILLE – The Sam Houston volleyball team fell to Denver 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Wisdom Volleyball Gym, to close out the Tarleton State Invitational.Â
The Bearkats battled throughout the match but were unable to overcome the Pioneers, finishing the tournament with a 1-2 record and moving to 6-4 overall on the season.Â
Brenlin Garlitz helped keep the Bearkats competitive throughout the match, recording a double-double with 19 assists and 11 digs. She also added three service aces. Shaelin White led the Kats defensively with 14 digs, while Rachelle Reed contributed five assisted blocks and two kills. Butler finished with eight kills and four total blocks.Â
Sam Houston found its offensive rhythm behind Chloe Monson, who led the Kats with 16 kills on 46 attacks. Chelsea Butler and Bella Wood each added eight kills, while Kameron Rector contributed six kills off the bench.Â
The Pioneers edged the Bearkats in the opening set, 25-23, before carrying that momentum into the second set. Denver secured a 25-22 win to take a 2-0 lead heading into the break.Â
With the match on the line, Sam Houston continued to battle in the third set. The Kats pushed the Pioneers to extra points, but Denver ultimately closed out the set 26-24 to complete the sweep.Â
Despite the loss, Sam Houston finished the match with 44 kills and a .187 hitting percentage. Denver recorded 42 kills and hit .213 as a team.Â
The Bearkats continue on the road as they head to the Lamar Invitational in Beaumont next weekend.Â
