
Bearkats open Lamar Invitational 2-0

BEAUMONT – The Sam Houston volleyball team picked up two wins Friday at the Lamar Invitational, defeating ULM 3-1 in the morning before closing the day with another 3-1 victory over North Dakota at McDonald Gym.Â

Sam Houston opened the day with a 3-1 victory over ULM, taking the first two sets 25-21 and 25-19 before the Warhawks answered with a 25-17 third-set win. The Bearkats closed out the match with a 25-21 victory in the fourth set.Â
The Bearkats finished with 60 kills on 148 attacks and hit .182 as a team. Sam Houston also recorded six aces, six blocks, 56 assists and 67 digs while holding ULM to a .122 hitting percentage.Â
Chloe Monson led the Bearkats with 18 kills, while Bella Wood added 15 and Chelsea Butler finished with 11. Monson also recorded 18 digs, while Wood added 10.Â
Brenlin Garlitz directed the offense with 24 assists, followed closely by Lauren Pyle with 23. Shaelin White led Sam Houston defensively with 24 digs.Â
At the net, Rachelle Reed and Butler each recorded three blocks, while Annika Brooks added two.Â
Sam Houston 3, North Dakota 1Â
The Bearkats carried the momentum into the afternoon, defeating North Dakota 4-1.Â
Sam Houston dominated offensively, hitting .315 as a team with 51 kills and just 16 errors. The Bearkats also recorded 15 service aces and held North Dakota to a .156 hitting percentage.Â
Wood again led the way with 15 kills while hitting .379. Monson added 13 kills, and Faith Roulston contributed eight kills while hitting .429. Annika Brooks recorded seven kills and hit .500.Â
Garlitz finished with 22 assists and a team-high six service aces, while White recorded 15 digs. Rachelle Reed, Chelsea Butler and Monson each added three blocks.Â
After North Dakota extended the match with a 26-24 third-set victory, Sam Houston responded in the fourth set. The Bearkats pulled away to a 25-19 win to finish the day with their second victory.Â
Sam Houston will close the Lamar Invitational Saturday against host Lamar. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at McDonald Gym, with the match available on ESPN+. Â
