Bearkats sweep Lamar 3-0

BEAUMONT — Sam Houston volleyball completed a perfect weekend at the Lamar Invitational with a 3-0 sweep of Lamar on Saturday afternoon, at McDonald Gym.Â
Bella Wood led the Bearkats with 13 kills, while Chelsea Butler and Chloe Monson each added 12. Butler posted a team-best .526 hitting percentage, while Wood hit .313 and added a service ace.Â
Sam Houston's offense was paced by Brenlin Garlitz and Lauren Pyle, Garlitz finished with 20 assists, while Pyle added 16 assists and 12 digs.Â
Shaelin White led the Bearkats defensively with 13 digs, followed by Pyle with 12. Rachelle Reed contributed five blocks, including two solo blocks and three assisted blocks, while Faith Roulston added seven kills and two assisted blocks.Â
The Bearkats took control in the second set, hitting .444 with 13 kills and just one error to take a 2-0 match lead. Lamar battled back in the third set, but Sam Houston held on to win 28-26 and complete the sweep.Â
The Bearkats will begin Conference play next weekend when they face off against Kennesaw State at VyStar Arena.Â
