Kennesaw, Ga. — Sam Houston opened Conference USA play with a 3-1 victory over Kennesaw State on Friday night at VyStar Arena.Â
Chloe Monson led the Bearkats offensively with 20 kills and added 11 digs for a double-double. Chelsea Butler recorded 14 kills on 21 attacks and finished with a team-best .476 hitting percentage. Bella Wood also posted a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs, while Lauren Pyle recorded 24 assists and 11 digs for her double-double. Faith Roulston contributed eight kills while hitting .316.Â
Brenlin Garlitz paced the Sam Houston offense with 27 assists, while Pyle added 24 assists and three service aces. Shaelin White led the defensive effort with 19 digs, followed by Wood and Pyle with 13 and 11, respectively.Â
The Bearkats also found success from the service line, recording 10 aces as a team. Pyle led Sam Houston with three aces, while Monson and Wood each added two.Â
At the net, Butler finished with six blocks, including one solo block and five assisted blocks. Brooks added three assisted blocks, while Rachelle Reed recorded one solo and two assisted blocks.Â
Sam Houston will look to make it two wins over Kennesaw State when the Bearkats return to VyStar Arena on Saturday. First serve is set for 2 p.m. and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
