Former Rice University catcher Travis Reagan will serve as volunteer coach for the Bearkats beginning with the 2011-12 school year.
"Travis will be a great contributor with our pitchers and catchers," Sam Houston Head Coach David Pierce said. "At Rice he showed he has an extensive understanding of what we are striving for in those areas. He has played some pro ball and been involved in youth camps as well. Entering his first year as a Division I baseball coach, I know he will serve the program well."
Reagan was an all-state third baseman and catcher at Lubbock Monterey High School. He also played quarterback for the football and graduated from Monterey in 2003.
At Rice in 2004 through 2007, Reagan played for Coach Pearce on nationally ranked Owl baseball teams. He was named to both the 2004 and 2006 All-Silver Glove Series Team (the series between Rice and Houston).
He helped lead the Owls to Western Athletic Conference Championships in 2004 and 2005 and to Conference USA titles in 2006 and 2007. The Owls reached the NCAA College World Series in both 2006 and 2007.
Reagan was a 45th round draft selection by the Washington Nationals and played three years in the Nationals system.
During the summer of 2010, he managed the 18-yearold Dallas Giants in the Dallas Select summer league. He was manager for the High Park High School varsity team during fall 2010.
