Barnes is in his second season as the Director of Football Operations and Player Personnel at Sam Houston after spending the previous seven years in various coaching roles throughout Texas and Georgia.
At Sam Houston he coordinates day-to-day operations for the team, including planning team travel and meals, organizing and promoting camps and managing the student intern program. Barnes will also be in charge of evaluating potential recruits, and the management of the team's roster and scholarships.
Before returning to Sam Houston he spent the 2019 season as an offensive graduate assistant coach at Georgia Southern, and prior to that spent two years at Texas State where he was the Director of Player Development/Graphic Design following a one-year stint as an offensive quality control coach for the Bobcats in 2016.
This is his second stint at SHSU, breaking into the college ranks as an offensive intern at Sam Houston in 2015. He also was a volunteer assistant football coach at A&M Consolidated High School from 2013-15 while he was a student at Texas A&M.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management at Texas A&M in 2015.
