Jacoby Walker 2022 Head Shot

Jacoby Walker

Jacoby Walker joined the Sam Houston coaching staff as wide receivers coach in the spring of 2022, most recently following a successful run in the Texas high schools ranks at Dallas South Oak Cliff High School.

Walker was the offensive coordinator for the Golden Bears for two seasons and helped SCHS make history in 2021 when his team captured the Texas Class 5A Division II state title, the first state title by a Dallas ISD school since 1950. His offense averaged 42.2 points per game in 2021, a balanced attack that also averaged 209 yards on the ground and 232 yards in the air.

In his two seasons in Dallas the Golden Bears amassed a record of 24-4, making the playoffs each year. He coached four Division I signees on the offensive side of the ball, including district and state championship game MVP Kevin Henry-Jennings who signed with SMU.

Prior to his time at SCHS, he spent the 2019 season on staff at his alma mater, Central Arkansas, where he worked directly with the Bear running backs and returners, helping UCA to the 2019 Southland Conference title. He also spent the 2017 season working with running backs at Southern Arkansas.

Before arriving at Southern Arkansas, Walker spent the spring of 2017 interning at Houston with the Sports Performance staff. Following the internship, Walker lead Cy Fair Speed to a No. 1 ranking in Houston and a No. 3 overall finish in the summer 2017 Texas State 7 vs. 7 Passing Tournament.

Walker was also the lead instructor for The Quarterback Ranch, which focused on offensive skill position development. Additionally, Walker worked as an account manager for Just Play Sports Solutions, a groundbreaking sports technology app before completely pursuing coaching.

Walker graduated from Central Arkansas with a Bachelor’s in Health Science and minor in Business in May 2014.  At UCA, Walker was a 3-year letterman and helped the Bears win a Southland Conference Championship as well as make a FCS playoff appearance in 2012. A starter on special teams as a Bear, Walker also played a diverse role on offense registering touchdowns as a running back and as a wide receiver.

Prior to his time at UCA, Walker initially signed to Arkansas amid other Power 5 offers and enrolled early in 2010. He immediately stood out in his first semester on campus as the MVP of the 2010 Red-White Spring game.  Walker was also a part of the Razorbacks’ 2011 BCS Sugar Bowl and 2012 BCS Cotton Bowl teams.

Ranked nationally as the No. 33 dual-threat quarterback prospect out of high school, Walker lead Texas 6A powerhouse Spring Westfield HS to playoff appearances and was awarded with All-District First-Team honors three consecutive years. As Westfield’s quarterback, Walker compiled 72 touchdowns and 6,000 all-purpose yards while capping off his career as district Offensive MVP, All-Houston selection, and was runner-up for the Houston Touchdown Club Offensive Player of the Year award.

Born in Texarkana, Texas, Walker was raised in Houston, Texas.
