Kara Whitson

Kara Whitson is in her first year as an academic advisor for Sam Houston State Athletics after transitioning from a position as an administrative assistant to head football coach K. C. Keeler.

With both her bachelor and master's degrees from Sam Houston, she compiled an outstanding record of achievement as a student-athlete both in track and field and in the classroom.

She earned dual honors as both Southland Conference indoor and outdoor “Women's Track & Field Student-Athlete of the Year” as a senior for the Bearkats. 

The Port Lavaca, Texas, native became only the fourth female in league history to earn indoor and outdoor student-athlete of the year in the same season.

Whitson earned her bachelors of science in food science and nutrition in three years with a 3.36 GPA and recently finished her master's in instructional leadership in one year, maintaining a 4.0.

Since 2007, 19 Bearkats have been named student-athlete of the year a total of 23 times.
