Riley Davis joins the Sam Houston men's basketball staff this season, coming to the Huntsville campus after serving as both a student coach and graduate assistant for the University of Texas Longhorns.
During his time at Texas, the Longhorns went a combined 72-32 while advancing to NCAA tournament all three years and being ranked in the top 25 a combined 35 weeks (31 weeks in the top 10).
In the 2009-10 season, the Horns were ranked as the No. 1 team in the country. In 2010-11, Texas reached as high as No. 2. During this time, Davis worked with 10 players who received all conference awards, two All-Americans, two freshman All-American award and 6 NBA draft selections.
Davis is a 2006 graduate of Seminole High School. He played basketball at Western Texas College in 2006-07, then transferred to Howard College where he played the following season. He received team awards for academic excellence, maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
After completing junior college eligibility, Davis was a student-assistant in 2008-09. He coordinated travel, scheduling, scouting, assisted with recruiting, and coached the JV squad as well.
During his time at Howard, the Hawks went a combined 49-12 while advancing to the notoriously competitive Region V NJCAA tournament both years and staying atop the nationally renowned WJCAC. The WJCAC is often referred to as the most competitive NJCAA conference in the country. He also helped recruit the class that went on to when the NJCAA national championship
