McKenzie, from Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa was named to the 2021 NJCAA Division I PING All-American first team in his freshman year at Midland College. His best World Amateur Golf Ranking was No. 491. He won the 2021 TankLogix Collegiate firing rounds of 63-64-69 winning by 10 shots. He also won the 2021 High Country Shootout with rounds of 65-61-66 and won 2021 Claude Jacobs Invitational firing 71-72-69. In spring of 2021, McKenzie was third at 2021 NJCAA Southwest Championship with rounds of 72-68-70 and then took eighth at 2021 NJCAA National Championship with rounds of 72-69-74-74.
