Biography

The Bearkats have added another bowler to the squad for this season with the addition of Sofiia Druchyna.

Druchyna, from Odessa Ukraine is the 12th international bowler to join the Bearkat bowling program as they head into their 12th-season and is the third European bowler to join the Bearkats since 2016.

"Sofiia is known for her work ethic and self-drive and those are two huge attributes we are always looking for," said head coach Brad Hagen. "Her passion about our sport and her desire to learn will be a huge asset in her development. Her international experience and competing with the adult national team adds a different level of mindset then most her age which should transfer over well to the NCAA."

Druchyna joins the Bearkat bowling program as a graduate from Odesa Gymnasium #8 of Odessa City Council of Odesa oblast and honored with 'Gold Medal' for high academic achievements.

Despite the shortened international season for the second year in a row, she has been a part of her Ukrainian Federation for the last several years and has been a rising contributor to their international team. She is a current member of their Ukrainian National Women's Team since 2018 and Youth Team since 2016.

In recent years she's won both the Ukrainian Youth Championship and Ukrainian Adult Team Championship. Prior to COVID Sofiia was the Ukrainian representative at the World Cup 2019 in Indonesia and also was a part of the Ukrainian Women's National Team who competed in Las Vegas as a 15 year old.

Druchyna will pursue a major in Political Science.
