Keith Herston

Keith Herston is in his second season with SHSU Track and Field and is continuing to coach the horizontal jumps and Combined Events.

Last year, in his first season with the Bearkats, Herston coached 10 All-Southland Conference Athletes, 2 of which were Southland Conference Champions, Ambra McCuin in triple jump and CJ Patterson in long jump. Herston also had 5 NCAA National Championship Preliminary Round Qualifiers and 2 USATF National Championship Qualifiers.  In addition Herston coached Chris Gilchrist, who triple jumped 51'11.75" indoors, breaking a 11 year old indoor school record by over a foot, and triple jumped 51'6.5" outdoors, breaking a 12 year old outdoor school record.

At SHSU, Herston is also responsible for team academics, assisting in recruiting, travel coordination, administrative duties, and aiding in home meet setup.

Before becoming a Bearkat, Herston served 2 years at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama as a Graduate Assistant Coach where he completed his Masters Degree in 2009.  During his time there he worked with men's and women's javelin throwers and combined events while also working in the developmental training  of pro-level athletes.  Herston also assisted in compliance, daily operations, travel, budget, and hosting home meets while at Auburn.

Herston is a 2007 graduate of the University of Alabama where he received his Bachelors Degree in Human Environmental Sciences while he was a member of the men's track and field team, competing in the horizontal jumps. While there, he was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
