HUNTSVILLE ? Tarkeisha Wysinger scored 24 points and Shanavia Dowdell added 21 to lead Louisiana Tech to a 93-58 non-conference women's basketball victory over Sam Houston State Saturday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum.
Nastassya Levingston also was in double figures for Louisiana Tech (5-7) with 12 points. The Techsters shot 55.4 percent from the field (36-of-65) as Louisiana Tech never trailed.
The Techsters jumped out to 9-0 lead before Sam Houston State scored its first points on a jumper by Deltrice Daniel with 17:13 to go in the first half. Louisiana Tech's biggest first half lead was 24 points, 41-17, on a jumper by Dowdell with 5:51 to go before halftime.
Three Bearkats scored in double figures with Brittany Brooks hitting 16 points and Whitney Smith and Daniel adding 10 each. The taller Techsters held SHSU to 30.4 percent shooting (21-of-69) and out-rebounded Sam Houston 61 to 30. JoKeirra Sneed and Dowdell led rebounding with 11 and 10 boards, respectively.
Leading 49-29 at halftime, Tech continued its hot shooting, building a 39-point advantage, 93-55, before Britney Harris hit a three point shot at the buzzer.
Harris had seven points for Sam Houston. Leasa Ailshie scored six points.
Sam Houston State will complete its non-conference schedule on Monday, December 31, with a road game at Centenary in Shreveport, LA. The Bearkats open Southland Conference action Saturday, Jan. 5, against McNeese State at 4:30 p.m. in Johnson Coliseum
