Sam Houston wins first tournament of the year at North Texas

DENTON -- Led by Stefanie Page and Jennifer Heinz, the Sam Houston State women's golf team tied for first place in the Bearkats' first tournament of the 2007-08 season at the North Texas Women's Classic on Robson Ranch Golf Club.
Trailing by one stroke, 300-299, going into today's final 18, the Bearkats carded a team score of 309 Tuesday while Oklahoma City shot 310 to give the two teams a tie with 36-hole scores of 609.
Susan Nam of Florida International won the individual medalist title with a two-day total of 73-72--145. Page was the individual runner-up with a score of 72-74--146.
Jennifer Heinz finished 13th with a score of 73-80--153. Other Bearkat scores were Landa Stewart 77-77--154 (18th), Wendy Joyner 78-78--156 (24th), and Kate Hathaway 80-81--161 (51st).
Southern Illinois (613) placed third followed by Florida International (616), Cal Poly and Texas-San Antonio (619), McLennan (645), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (650), Utah Valley (678), and Houston Baptist (692).
