Women sprinters, throwers highlight first meet

Led by sprinters Tiffany Singleton and Jessica Fisher and thrower Natalia Clark, the Sam Houston State women's track team produced a runner-up team finish at their first indoor competition of the 2008 season, the Hilton Memorial Classic at the University of Houston's Bill Yeoman Indoor Sports Center.
Rice won the women's team competition with 127 points, followed by Sam Houston with 95, Houston 91.5, Texas State-San Marcos, 58, and Stephen F. Austin 55. A total of 14 universities competed in the event.
Singleton was the top intercollegiate finisher in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.01.
Fisher placed third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.52 seconds. Dess Meek was a third place finisher in the high jump, leaping five feet, 4.25 inches.
Kendall Bass, Tiana Lee, and Regina Offord produced fourth place finishes, Bass with a mark of 50 feet and one-half inch in the women's weight throw, Lee in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.84 seconds, and Offord in the 200 meter dash with a mark of 26.23 seconds.
