LITTLE ROCK ? Turnovers proved to be the difference as Arkansas-Little Rock handed the Sam Houston State women's basketball team an 81-52 non-conference loss Sunday afternoon.
The Trojans scored 27 points off the Bearkats 26 turnovers while Sam Houston collected only seven points from UALR's nine miscues.
Otherwise, Sam Houston State (0-2) played Arkansas-Little Rock (1-0) evenly. The Kats hit 20-of-50 (40 percent) from the field while UALR was 32-of-66 (42 percent).
Brittany Brooks led the Bearkats with 11 points. Leasa Ailshie added eight points with five assists and Britni Martin scored six. Sam Houston totaled 39 bench point while the UALR bench scored only 17.
Arkansas-Little Rock was led by Kim Sitzman with 21 points and Asriel Cooper with 17.
The Trojans led from buzzer to buzzer, building a 36-18 halftime margin. Sam Houston was outscored 45-34 in the second period.
Sam Houston State will play its third game of the 2008-09 season Friday evening when the Bearkats play host to Centenary at 7 p.m. in Johnson Coliseum.
