Women's tennis dominates at Tyler Fall tournament

TYLER -- Winning 24 of 28 singles matches and 11 doubles pro sets, the Sam Houston women's tennis dominated at the Tyler Fall Invitational Friday and Saturday, Oct. 31-Nov. 1, in the Bearkats' second fall tournament of the 2008-09 season.
Irina Sotnikova and Peta Taylor won the number one doubles championship. Sotnikova and Giorgia Pozzan reached the finals of the number one singles, opting not to play the championship match. Taylor won the number two singles flight.
Pozzan and Stasa Vujosevic won the number two doubles flight.
“This was a very solid effort from everyone on the team,” SHSU head coach Jim Giachino said. “We were undefeated in doubles and won 24 matches. After Hurricane Ike's visit and the long lay-off, I was very pleased to see how well everyone competed. The Houston tournament next week will be a much stronger test for us, but at this time I could not be more pleased with the efforts of everyone on this team.”
The Bearkats will close out their 2008 fall schedule at the Houston Cougar Fall Invitational event next weekend.
