ALABAMA 90 SAM HOUSTON 50
TUSCALOOSA, AL -- Freshman Britni Martin scored 11 points and senior Lydia Gonzales added 10 to lead Sam Houston State as the Bearkat women's basketball team fell to Alabama 90-50 Sunday afternoon.
Gonzales put the Bearkats in the lead briefly, scoring the game's first points on a jumper at 18:16 in the first half. But Alabama struck back with an 18-0 run and built a 42-18 lead.
Sam Houston totaled 32 points in the second half. The Crimson Tide defense held the Bearkats to a season low field goal percentage of .261 as Sam Houston went 16-of-60 from the floor. The Kats attempted 23 three point shots but hit only five.
Alabama hit 36-of-79 from the field for 45 percent shooting. The Crimson Tide was 14-of-24 at the line while Sam Houston went 13-of-18.
Brittany Brooks and Lease Ailshie each scored nine points. Martin and Gonzales also were the team's top rebounders, Martin with six boards and Gonzales with five.
Tierney Jenkins led Alabama with 13 points off the bench.
Sam Houston State dropped to 1-7 for the year. Alabama is 7-2 this season. The Bearkats continue their month-long road swing with a trip to Ruston, Louisiana, this Saturday to face Louisiana Tech. The Bearkats do not return to Johnson Coliseum until Dec. 31.
