
Men's golf places sixth at San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO -- The Sam Houston State men's golf team placed sixth in a 17-team field in the Bearkats' first action of the spring season at the Texas-San Antonio Oak Hills Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday.
The Bearkats placed ahead of five other Southland Conference teams in the event. Mississippi State won the team title with a 54-hole total of 864. Texas Tech was the team runner-up at 873, followed by Oklahoma 874, Wichita State 875, Louisiana-Monroe 881, and Sam Houston State 887.
Following Sam Houston in the team standings were Air Force 888, DePaul and Texas-San Antonio 890, Central Arkansas and Stephen F. Austin 896, Illinois State 904, Texas State-San Marcos 908, Marshall and Rhode Island 920, UTSA B 921, and McNeese State 931.
Noah Goldman of Mississippi State was the individual medalist champion with a 73-64-75--212 total on the 6,765 yard par 71 course.
Scott Kelly led the Bearkats, placing 17th individually with a 77-68-75--220 total. Other Bearkat finishes and scores were Brandon Frankhouser 25th, 78-70-74--222; Fergal Rafferty 30th, 72-76-75--233; Beau Willis, 47th, 74-75-78--227; and Scooter Jefferson, 53rd, 77-72-80--229.
