CORPUS CHRISTI -- Lydia Gonzales scored a career high 25 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Sam Houston lost 78-68 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a Southland Conference women's basketball game Saturday.
During the first half, there were five ties and five lead changes with Sam Houston leading by as many as five points, 19-14, after a basket by Ausha Hartley with 9:27 to play. The Kats led by four, 23-19, with 7:17 left before TAMUCC went on an 18-9 run to go up five points, 37-32, at intermission.
The Islanders built a 14 point lead in the second half as Mercedes Cooper scored 17 and Deziree Green added 16.
Whitney Smith scored 10 points and Brittany Brooks added nine for Sam Houston State.
