HUNTSVILLE ? Led by first baseman Paul Goldschmidt who went 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs, Texas State-San Marcos defeated Sam Houston State 13-6 in the final game of a weekend Southland Conference baseball series at Don Sanders Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The victory upped the Bobcats' record to 14-9 for the season and 6-3 in Southland Conference. Texas State-San Marcos earned the series win by taking two of the three games. The Bobcats have won their last 10 annual series with the Bearkats, not dropping a series to Sam Houston since 1998.
The Bobcats totaled their 13 runs on 15 hits and three Bearkat errors.
Bobby Verbick and Seth Hammock hit home runs for Sam Houston. Keith Stein went 3-for-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs.
Sam Houston State drops to 15-11 on the year and 5-4 in Southland action.
Sam Houston plays host to Prairie View A&M at Don Sanders Stadium Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Bearkats travel to Texas-Arlington for a road weekend series beginning Friday.
