HUNTSVILLE ? Playing her final game as a Bearkat, senior forward Britney Harris scored 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Sam Houston State in a 67-61 women's basketball loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Chrsti.
Harris scored on a jumper with 1:16 left to play to cut the Islanders' lead to three points. After a rebound, the Bearkats appeared to have an opportunity to pull off their first Southland Conference victory of the season, but a turnover and two free throws by Jade Davis with 1:01 to play saved the game for TAMUCC, earning the Islanders the number eight seed in the Southland Conference post-season tournament.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (11-19, SLC 7-9) led by 18 points with 9:59 to play, 49-31. But the Bearkats began pressing and went of a 28-13 run to cut the margin to 62-59.
Whitney Smith also scored 17 points and led Sam Houston with 12 rebounds. Lydia Gonzales added nine points and seven boards.
Sam Houston (1-28, SLC 0-16) hit 22 of 62 from the field for 35.5 points. The Bearkats forced Texas A&M-Corpus Christi into 15 turnovers.
