Bearkat women post outstanding marks at Houston

HOUSTON ? Tiffany Singleton posted an NCAA regional qualifying mark as she finished as the runner-up in the 400 meters to highlight action for the Sam Houston State women's track and field team at the Houston Invitational Saturday, hosted by the University of Houston.
The meet was the final outing for the Bearkats in preparation for next week's Southland Conference Track and Field Championships to be held Friday through Sunday at Sam Houston State's York Track and Field Center and Bowers Stadium.
"This was a great tune-up meet for us before next week's Southland
Conference Outdoor Championships” Head Coach Curtis Collier said. “We went into the meet with the objectives of improving our best performance marks, tuning up for the championship season, and staying healthy so we can give ourselves the best possible chance to perform at our best next weekend. We ended up with 13 season bests."
Singleton finished second in the 400 with a time of 54.35, a mark currently 2nd in the Southland Conference and 7th in the NCAA Midwest Region.
Other second place finishers for the Bearkats were Kim Olison in the hammer (150-6), Dess Meek in the High Jump (5-7), Tiana Lee in the 400 Hurdles (62.90), and the 4x100 relay of Tiana Lee, Jessica Fisher, Dess Meek, and Regina Offord (46.17- Southland leader).
"We had alot of very encouraging performances this weekend,” Collier said. “We are looking forward to having the Southland Championships on our home track I have a great deal of confidence that our athletes will be peaking at just the right time and look forward to outstanding performances that will excite and entertain our home crowd.”
