
Irina Sotnikova earns Academic All-SLC

Sam Houston State women's tennis player Irina Sotnikova has been named to the 2008 Academic All-Southland Conference honor squad.
The junior from Riga, Latvia, led the Bearkats to their fourth consecutive Southland Conference post-season tournament appearance this spring.
Sotnikova compiled an 15-5 record at number one singles in dual match play and teamed with Peta Taylor for an 18-2 record at number one doubles. Sotnikova ranks as Sam Houston State's all-time winningest singles and doubles player. In the class room, she holds a 3.78 grade point average majoring in finance.
Two other Bearkats, Patricia Manzur and Eleonora Kuruc, were recognized as Academic All-Southland honorable mention.
Manzur, a junior from Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico, played number five singles and number three doubles for the Bearkats. She holds a 3.43 overall grade point average majoring in psychology.
Kuruc, a junior from Novi Sad, Serbia, played number two singles and number three doubles this year. She posted a 3.21 grade point average majoring in business.
