Heinz SLC Women's Golf "Student-Athlete of Year"

Sam Houston State's Jennifer Heinz has been named as the Southland Conference's Women's Golf Student Athlete of the Year and is a member of the 2007-08 Women's Golf All-Academic team.
Heinz, a senior from Mounds View, MN, with a 3.52 grade point average in Professional Golf Management, led Sam Houston State to a runner-up team finish at the SLC Women's Golf Championships in Beaumont in April.
Heinz was the runner-up in the individual medalist competition at the league tournament with a three-round total of 225. During the season, she had a 75.7 stroke-average over 31 rounds (12 tournaments) and had eight top ten finishes on the season.
The selection of Heinz as 2008 Southland Women's Golf “Student-Athlete of the Year” marks the sixth time in the past two years for a Bearkat to be recognized as a Southland Conference “Student Athlete of the Year.”
Ryan Bright earned the honor each of the past two years in men's basketball. Luke Prihoda (baseball), Lata Assudani (women's tennis), and Jennie Sewell (women's outdoor track and field) also received the honor in 2007.
Two other Bearkats, Wendy Joyner and Emily Bartholet, were Academic All-Southland honorable mention selections.
Joyner, a junior from Montgomery, holds a 3.51 overall grade point average majoring in health and biology. She placed13th at Southland Conference tournament and won the individual title at Nicholls State Colonel Invitational. Joyner placed among top 20 individuals in six events during 2007-08.
Bartholet, a sophomore from Montgomery, maintains a 3.28 grade point average majoring in English. She placed in the top 20 in four tournaments this season including a season best of 8th at the Louisiana-Monroe event.
